LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – The Colonial Restaurant (in photo above) was built in 1955 by Lassie Ayers, mother of the late legendary Hack Ayers.

The restaurant operated until 1968 when I-75 bypassed it. Before 1968, the restaurant was on a stretch of U.S. Hwy 25W that was the main route from the north to the south which ran through Campbell County. This was long before this section of 25W become part of Lafollette city limits. In 1980, and to this day, this became the office for Ayers Real Estate and Auction Company. 1. Mom and Dad (Wilford and Frances Johnson) ran it for Aunt Lassie the last couple of years it was open. When the Interstate was completed and decreasing traffic in town spelled the end of the restaurant, they went to Lake City to run Lamb’s Inn Restaurant. Dad dearly loved Aunt Lassie and often spoke of her. I believe he thought of her as a second mother. Lassie’s sister, Clara, was his mother.
