CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – Last Thursday, around 7pm, Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Justin Phillips answered a call in the Vasper community. When he arrived, he made contact with a male and two females who were sitting in a Chrysler 300 Sedan on Dilbeck Lane. As he approached the car, he noticed the male driver and a female passenger in the front seat bent down in the seat and appeared to be reaching for something in the floor. Phillips detected a strong smell of marijuana coming from the 2006 car, according to a report from the sheriff’s office.

The man behind the wheel, identified as Jaelon James Woods of Claxton, allegedly told Phillips that he had come up to visit with one of the girls, both minors at the time, one from Caryville and the other from Claxton. One of the females allegedly reported to Deputy Phillips that she and Woods had smoked marijuana in the car. Phillips observed a green and black Taurus G2C 9MM Pistol in the driver side floorboard. The pistol had a bullet loaded in the chamber of the gun and a loaded magazine that was also inserted into the pistol. The deputy located a green leaf like substance believed to be marijuana in the console. He also found a small plastic bag with a green leaf like substance inside it that was in the passenger side floorboard.

Dispatch advised Phillips that Woods had an active warrant for his arrest from the LaFollette Police Department for theft over $2,500.

Woods, 21, 204 Walnut Valley Rd, Claxton was charged with theft of property $2,500-$9,999 and possession of schedule VI. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 05/20/2022-6AM)
