LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – La Follette Police and Fire Departments along with Campbell County EMS were extra busy on Thursday with at least five car wrecks across town.

This was the second wreck at this corner this year. The first wreck missed the flower bed.
This wreck happened on April 6 with the truck missing the flower bed. The driver told WLAF News that he was forced off the road in this predawn crash.

Around 11:30am, there was a multi-vehicle wreck on the four lane in front of La Follette Middle School detouring La Follette bound traffic. A couple of vehicles collided at the South Avenue stop light in front of Gamble Motors on the four lane at 12:45pm. Fifteen minutes later First Responders headed to a single vehicle mishap in the parking lot of Lowe’s. Traffic heading toward Jacksboro on the four lane at Towe String Road was down to a single lane when a wreck happened near the stop light at 1:45pm. A little after 8pm, there was a traffic accident in the flower bed in front of Cross-Smith Funeral Home on East Central Avenue at South Indiana Avenue. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 06/03/2022-6AM)

  1. Those flower beds are too close to the road. Whomever thought that was a good idea was asleep on the job!

    1. I agree, they are a little too close. However, they do serve a purpose, some of them anyways. The one shown in the picture seems to be doing it’s job. The raised flowerbeds stop out of control vehicles from hitting pedestrians and crashing into buildings downtown. Which this particular flowerbed seems to have done, can’t speak for the rest though.

  2. The flower beds can be a contributing factor. There have been several accidents reported with them being in the way. They are pretty and I don’t have anything against them. I’d say the ones with banged up cars have their own opinion as well.

  3. The flower beds in downtown LaFollette “does not contribute to any accidents” that happens around them. People need to pay attention and stay off their cell phones.
For the people that says the flower beds are causing accidents this question is for you. If there was curbs along the side of the road would it cause accidents?
