LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – This staple structure in downtown was built the year of the Lafollette fire in 1904, Charles W. Mars Furniture.

Mr. Mars was also in the funeral service business (undertaker), and many furniture dealers back in the day were in the funeral business.  Ordering the coffin or casket was somewhat like ordering furniture.  They would place your order and usually the next day, and, maybe a little longer, it would arrive by train.  If you look closely at the 4th window from the right you will see Special Funeral Services written on the window.

This building still stands today as the Habitat Restore. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 11/24/2022-6AM)
