CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – Visiting with Tennova Primary Care, Caryville’s newest healthcare provider John Scates is liking slipping into your favorite pair of shoes. Scates, a nurse practitioner, is as good at listening as he is as sharing his years of knowledge in the healthcare field.

There’s a passion about Scates that is immediately seen. He was the only male in a class of 15 taking an advanced healthcare class during his senior year at Scott High, and the first day after graduation in June 1977, he was employed in the healthcare field.

Nurse Practitioner John Scates is now accepting new patients at 865.647.3230.

“I started at the Oneida Hospital as an orderly, known these days as a male technician, and went from there,” said Scates. He trained to be a paramedic even caring for patients as part of a medical helicopter crew as well as working in hospitals. In fact, Scates was the first paramedic in Scott County and founded the county’s paramedic program in 1981. “I’ve spent most of my career primarily in emergency medical services,” said Scates.

Becoming a registered nurse was the next step in Scates career. Five years ago, he became a nurse practitioner, and he’s now practicing at Tennova Primary Care , Caryville.

“I count it a joy to be able to take care of patients,” said Scates. To set up an appointment with Nurse Practitioner John Scates, simply call 865.647.3230. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 03/27/2023-6AM)
