JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – For the first time in recent history, the Campbell County School Board is facing no legal negotiations and no pending lawsuits. Board Attorney Dail Cantrell told the members it was “for the first time since I’ve been here.”

Nine teachers were awarded tenure for the 2022-23 school year: Jamie Gillum, Spenser St. John, Kristen Marlow-Teetzman, Michael Roark, Michael Reynolds, Emily Mundy, Bethany Baird, Allan Miller and Karen Ingram. Later School Director Jennifer Fields reported 20 teachers have put in for retirement at various schools throughout the district.

Fields also announced that Tennessee Risk Management has agreed to fund $30,000 of the estimated $38,000 cost to repair the roof at the Campbell County High School field house.

Internet upgrades continue throughout the school system, Fields said, and the final schools to receive the upgrades, Jellico, Elk Valley and Wynn, can expect them by January of next year.

In other action the board:

  • Approved Amendment Four of the grant contract between county schools and the Tennessee Higher Education Commission.
  • Approved the Health and Safety Six addendum.
  • Approved the ESSER public plan for remaining funds.
  • Approved changing a memorandum of understanding on insurance that the incentive is only available to certified employees who began employment before July 1, 2015.

Hard on the heels of a historically short county commission workshop on Monday night, the school board met for only 24 minutes. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 04/12/2023-6AM)
