State Representative Dennis Powers sent flowers to WLAF on its 70 year celebration.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – On this May 17, 2023, WLAF celebrates its 70th year on the air. It was a Sunday back in 1953 when AM 1450 first came on the air. Many listeners, like the late Jerry Sharp, have shared memories over the years of where they were when they first heard the station come on the air. For the young Sharp, he was listening in Anderson County on his way back to Hiawassee Junior College.

Thank you, WLAF listeners and advertisers. You are who makes us go and have kept us on the air all these years.

HERE is a memorable story and wonderful recollection from one of WLAF’s many alums, Smith Rea, Jr. He’s affectionately known as Smitty. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 05/17/2022-6AM-REPUBLISHED – 05/17/2023-6AM)
