The county gets the tax amount owed on the property and if it sells for more than what is owed on taxes, the property owner gets those funds.

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – “This is the county’s money we’ve collected, and the final total came out to $669,196.61 in collected property taxes from 2020 and any previous outstanding years,” said Dennis Potter, Campbell County clerk and master. In two and a half hours on Friday morning, Potter, County Attorney Joe Coker and Lisa Sanders, deputy clerk for the Campbell County Clerk and Master’s Office conducted the delinquent property tax sale held in front of a standing room only crowd at the courthouse.

“At the conclusion of the sale, we receipted everyone, put it all on the books and then in the bank,” said Potter. Our dedicated staff likes to have good sales and be efficient, Potter said. “This staff makes it happen and deserves a lot of credit,” said Potter.

Bidding was quick on the parcels being offered Friday.

The more than 100 properties had to at least receive a minimum bid representing the overdue taxes.

“We don’t want to sell anyone’s property, and even if the property sold on Friday, property owners still have a year grace period to redeem their property,” said Potter.

More than 100 properties were on Friday’s list.

“Bill Archer, my predecessor, ran a very good office, and his original staff is still in place going on the ten years I’ve been here,” said Potter. We have the best people, and I’m blessed to have this staff, Potter said.

“This is a year round process in preparing for this auction. In fact, we already have the 2021s in our office,” said Potter.

Our staff is comprised of honest and dependable people who do it the right way down to the penny, Potter added. “We’ve never had a finding by the auditor since I’ve been in office,” Potter said. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 05/22/2023-6AM)
