LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – A routine traffic stop on Tuesday evening netted two arrests of women wanted out of Indiana.

Around 6pm Tuesday Campbell Sheriff’s Lt. Gary Jeffers and Deputy Franklin Ayers were patrolling Cedar Creek Road. The cruiser was traveling east as Jeffers watched a Scion xB coming the other way cross the double-yellow center line on the Cedar Creek Bridge. The compact car was approximately a third of the way into the west bound lane, according to Jeffers; he soon initiated a traffic stop.

A registration check revealed the driver, Kimberly Sue Jones, had an active arrest warrant in Indiana, according to the report. Jones was arrested.

Ayers then saw a person in the back seat of the car moving around a lot. When he ran her name, Leslie Ann Ross, through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), Ayers learned she was also wanted on a warrant out of Indiana.

Both officers, as Ross stood on the side of the road, asked several times if she had anything illegal on her. Several times, Ross denied having anything. Upon arrival to the jail, Ross was questioned again about having anything illegal, and she again said she did not have anything, based on the arrest report. However, later, Ross allegedly admitted to having introduced heroin into the jail within her body.

Ross, 48, 309 Dogwood Acres, La Follette, was charged with possession of a schedule I controlled substance, introduction or possession in a penal facility tampering with or fabricating evidence and a hold for another agency.

Jones, 39, 529 Red Oak Way-Austin, Indiana, faces a charge of a hold for Indiana. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 03/21/2024-6AM)
