LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Today, we take a look back at the Davis Chapel School. The school was located at the corner of Davis Chapel and Carr-Wynn Roads, but the building is still there today. This photograph is from a time when community schools dotted the entire county.

There were small three or four room schools, some rooms would serve as two or three different classes, and all the kids knew each other from oldest to youngest. It must have been warm weather when the above photo was taken. Notice that most all the rooms have their air conditioning on, windows raised, that is. The students are in short sleeves.

Back in the day, the school served as more than just a school house. It was a place where the community would gather for meetings, a polling place on election day, and it served as the community center and a play ground for kids. It was the feeling of community. 1. Johnny Angel “Eddie” Angel has fond memories of moving to this community & attending this school in 1964. It was a good time in life.!
