La Follette husband and wife die in mid-week collision

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – A husband died Wednesday afternoon at the scene of a wreck on Jacksboro Pike in LaFollette. His wife, who was airlifted from the site, died early Thursday afternoon.

Just before 4pm Wednesday, Robert Lowe, 71, was driving a 2005 Toyota Camry with his wife Georgia Lowe, 71, in the front passenger seat. Robert Lowe was attempting to make a left turn from the Tractor Supply parking lot onto US 25W (Jacksboro Pike) and failed to yield to traffic traveling US 25W south, according to a preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

The report said Lowe attempted to cross US 25W in front of a 2015 Ford Flex driven by Alisha Smith, 40. Both vehicles came to an uncontrolled rest in front of Doyle’s Tire Shop.

Georgia Lowe and Smith were wearing seatbelts, Robert Lowe was not. There were no other passengers in the Toyota. Smith and her young passengers were shaken but not injured.

Smith is facing a charge of violation of the financial responsibility law. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 03/29/2024-1PM)
