CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – The Town of Caryville Board of Mayor and Aldermen met for the monthly meeting on Monday evening. Ordinance No: 2024-04 amending the zoning map of the Town of Caryville Tennessee by changing the zoning for property on Woods Circle from R-1 Low Density Residential to commercial had a first reading.

With the Caryville Cares Playground opening, the board discussed safety measures they needed to put into place. The board approved posting 10mph speed limit signs from Main Street to the School Hill Road and Church Street intersection, children at play signs and installing temporary speed bumps. Other safety measures that need to be installed are curbs and handicap signs. The grand opening of the park is slated for April 26 at noon.

A temporary position for the library was approved. The position is for a maximum of 10 hours a week. The board approved running the posting for a librarian for an additional two weeks to get more applications. The library has $23,000 to be spent before May 15, some suggestions for the money to be spent are a display case to showcase crafts and Legos made by the kids who visit the library. Other suggestions were for kids tablets and a new laptop for the library staff.

A resident of the Park Place neighborhood was present to complain about some of the residents not taking care of their property. He reported to the council that one trailer has several broken windows and one trailer has a door missing. He also reported that some of the lawns have not been mowed. Mayor Bobby Stooksbury told the man that he would speak with the codes officer and have her come out to address the issues.
