LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – On April 21 Campbell County Lieutenant Travis Bostic was notified by Captain John Long that a 2009 Nissan Rogue was observed traveling on West Chestnut Street. Bostic was advised the vehicle was paced traveling 40 MPH in a 30 MPH zone. Bostic was able to catch up with the CUV on Hwy 25 at the one time Merita Bread Store near Wier Woods.

Bostic stopped the Nissan and made contact with the driver who was identified as 52-year old Rhonda Kay Shears. The driver was asked for her license, registration and proof of insurance. Shears told Bostic that she had a learner’s permit that she had just received it the day before according to a report from the Sheriff’s Department.

Shears was asked to step out of the CUV. At this point, Bostic commanded his partner, K-9 Santo, to conduct an exterior sniff of the vehicle. The K-9 alerted to the vehicle and a search of the vehicle was conducted. Bostic was joined by Detective-Sergeant David Wormsley who found a yellow package with an orange strip inside that was believed to be a schedule III drug. Shears allegedly stated that she had Xanax in her purse. She told Bostic that she had a prescription for Suboxone but did not have it in her possession.

Shears, 52, 105 Seiber Way, LaFollette is charged with speeding, no driver’s license and possession of schedule III controlled substance. Based on jail records, this was Shears 13th arrest, and she is due in court on May 18. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 04/29/2021-6AM)
