LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – It was quite the morning on WLAF on Wednesday as Steve Bruce paid a visit to talk about his latest recording, a new CD, entitled What I Know Now. The new work has plenty of local flavor from Bruce, who wrote all the songs, to his son, Andrew, playing on the CD, and the producer, La Follette native Dennis Money of Sweet Song Nashville. HERE is a related story from Bluegrass Today.

Bruce wrote these songs over several years and finally compiled them onto one CD. He shares what the songs mean with related scriptures from the Bible and a one line explanation.

“Most all of the songs, bluegrass instrumentals, are based on messages I’ve preached over the years,” said Bruce, the pastor of Faithway Assembly of God. By the Brook was the first single from the CD, and the current single is Facing the Giant.

Bruce explained that they’d gone through a whole list of possible titles for the CD. “I thought after playing the banjo for 45, 50 years, I’ve learned along the way and this is what I know now. So there’s your title,” said Bruce.

The latest single released from Bruce’s CD is Facing the Giant.

“If you like bluegrass banjo, you’re gonna LOVE the new Steve Bruce project, “What I Know Now”. Called to preach the Gospel as a young man, he choose to answer that call instead of pursuing a full time job as a musician. Steve is, in my opinion, one of the most underrated five string banjo players to ever come from the East Tennessee region. Put it on, turn it up, tap your foot and be Blessed!” said Jerry Salley, Songwriter/Producer/Artist, Billy Blue Records, Nashville.

Here is the link for the digital download/streaming for “What I Know Now” available on all digital platforms now. Bruce said you can also just call him for a copy at 423.912.0998. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 06/22/2023-6AM)
