JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – State Representative Dennis Powers attended Monday’s County Commission meeting to read a state proclamation in recognition and honor of the Campbell County High School’s Athletic program and the academic achievements of student athletes.

Powers said the CCHS Athletic program had done an amazing job and the athletes had “distinguished themselves as true champions that we could all be proud of.”

“The Athletic program at Campbell County High School has an honor that most schools don’t have,” Powers said. He mentioned several details of the proclamation that highlighted the academic achievements of the 253 student athletes that comprise the athletic program.

“These athletes have proven themselves to be competitors that are truly worthy of admiration by earning an overall 3.7 grade point average during the most recent academic year…The overall grade point average is highlighted by 73 individuals who earned a perfect 4.0 GPA or higher and 191 students who earned a 3.0 or higher…and whereas remarkably all 16 teams who proudly represent Campbell County High School in athletic competitions earned a cumulative team grade point average of 3.0. Whereas the members of the athletic teams of Campbell County High School epitomize all that is good in today’s student athletes and have achieved a premier level of success in competition while exhibiting the highest degree of character in all aspects of life.”

The proclamation was signed by Tennessee Speaker of the House Cameron Sexton, State Representative Dennis Powers and Senator Ken Yager.

The proclamation was accepted by Campbell County High School Principal Ben Foust.

“We do appreciate it. This is an honor; like he said, it’s the epitome of student athletes. Our student athletes really put forth the effort in the classroom, and we are very proud of them,” Foust said.

Commissioner Scott Kitts thanked Foust and his staff for all the “work they do at the school and in the classroom.”

“We have wonderful staff,” Foust said. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 09/19/2023-6AM)
