LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – David Hicks life story in print has only been out since November, and it’s already touched lots of lives and continues benefiting local organizations. Hicks vowed from the beginning that proceeds from “To Be Somebody” would be donated to a worthy cause, and donations were presented Friday morning at the WLAF studio. Related story on Hicks’ book.

“We’ve sold several hundred copies, and I have a few left and plan to order more soon,” said Hicks, a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

“Our van has more than 350,000 on it, and we’re trying to get a new one,” said Jellico Honor Guard Commander Danny McCulley. “David’s generous gift is a big help, and we’re very thankful to David for helping us,” McCulley added.

A check for $1,000 was presented to the Jellico Honor Guard, and Hicks also announced a generous donation is headed to the Open Arms Food Pantry.

This is the second such donation Hicks has made this year.  The other donations went to the Campbell County Cancer Association and the Jellico Honor Guard.

The book is available at the La Follette and Jacksboro public libraries and Katie’s Restaurant and sells for $20.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 04/18/2022-6AM)

  2. The Jellico Honor Guard, belongs to American Legion Post 154 and although we are named Jellico Honor Guard we do funeral services in Campbell, Scott, Anderson, Claiborne and Knox counties. We also serve southeast Ky. We are extremely grateful and honored to accept the generous donation from Mr. Hicks, a patriot, to help us continue honoring our veterans. If anyone would like to help us purchase a dependable van you may make a donation at the First Volunteer Bank of Lafollette to the Jellico Honor Guard Van Fund.
